Installing The PN-40 Firmware Update On a PC
Note the instructions below are to install the standard firmware update. If no base maps are on your PN-Series GPS or if you had to do a low-level format of the device, scroll down to the bottom of the page to download the firmware version that contains the base maps.

1. Click Here (26 MB) to download the update and save it to your desktop.
2. Connect your PN-Series GPS to your computer.
   
3. Select Enter for Data Exchange
   
4. Select Menu-->Device Setup-->Connect To Computer.
   
   
   
5. Change the USB Setting to Firmware Transfer.
   
   
   
6. Wait for a new Removable Drive to appear in My Computer on your PC.
   
7. If you had trouble at step 4, take out the SD Card and place it in a Card Reader. Then proceed to step 6.
   
8. Once the new drive appears, double-click PNSeriesFirmware26.exe file on your desktop.
   
9. Click Next.
   
   
   
10. The PN Series device will display. Click Next.
    
    
    
11. Click Copy to send the firmware to the SD card on the PN-Series GPS device.
    
    
    
12. When the application is done, click Finish.
    
    
    
13. Select Restart on your PN-Series GPS or If you had to use the Card Reader, place the SD Card in the PN-Series GPS and Start the device.
    
14. In both cases, the device should go through a process of Validating and Updating the Firmware.
    
15. When complete, the PN-Series GPS will reboot, and the device will be updated with the latest firmware.
    

Installing The PN-Series GPS Full Firmware Update
Note this update is only needed if the base maps are not showing on the Earthmate PN-Series GPS. If the base maps are on the PN-Series GPS, please use the much smaller firmware update above.

Click Here (141 MB) to download the full Topo 7 firmware update and save it to your desktop. Then follow the instructions for the regular firmware update above to install it.

Click Here (174 MB) to download the full Topo 8 firmware upate and save it to your desktop. Then follow the instructions for the regular firmware update above to install it.
Note: Only install the Topo 8 firmware update if you are sending Topo 8 data to your PN-Series device. Mixing data types can cause issues on the PN-Series device.
Note: This firmware is also located on the Topo USA 8 installation DVD within the Util-->PN-Series_Firmware_Launcher folder.

Installing The PN-Series Firmware Update On a MAC

1.Before connecting your PN-Series GPS to your computer, activate Firmware Transfer mode.

1. Press the MENU button from any PN-Series GPS screen.
2. Select Device Setup.
3. Select Connect to Computer...
4. Open the USB Setting drop-down menu.
5. Select Firmware Transfer and stop there.

Note: If you see the Connect to Computer screen, ensure Data Exchange is highlighted and press the ENTER button. Then, follow the steps above.

3. Download the Firmware Update

Note: You must use the correct version of the firmware with the PN-Series data you are using.

Click here (3 MB) to download the firmware update if you are using Topo USA 7 data. This update installs the latest firmware updates.

Click Here (135 MB) to download the firmware update if you are using Topo USA 8 data. This update installs the latest firmware updates and the Topo 8 base data.

3. Drag the update folder to the mounted PN-40 drive.

4. When copying is complete, eject the mounted PN-40 drive.

5. Press the ENTER button on the PN-40 to restart the device.
